One Hour Enamel is my all-time favorite paint. I have used sooo many different brands, and many of them are also very good, but the OHE is my favorite because of (1) FAST DRYING TIME, (2) SELF-LEVELING PAINT, (3) SATIN FINISH TOPCOAT. These three factors combined make refinishing furniture fast, easy, and beautiful. It gives everything a professional look that cannot be duplicated.
There are some things that need to be done- prep work is ALWAYS necessary if you want to do a good job.
- Clean the piece well with a degreaser cleaner. I use Green EZ cleaner or Simple Green. The paint won't stick if there are oils and waxes still on the piece, so scrub it down, especially in areas that are high traffic.
- Use a block sanding pad or orbital sander to rough up the surface and prepare it for the paint. Make sure to wipe off all of the dust with a wet cloth or tack cloth.
- Use primer in most cases, but always use primer for pieces with exposed raw wood, shiny finishes, or discolorations of any kind.
- I like to use a 400 grit sanding block between coats of paint to make it buttery smooth.
